FULL CASE STUDY

Behind the Project.

A deeper look at the thinking, development decisions and implementation behind this project.

Project Background
Vital Cores is a custom-coded e-commerce web application created to deliver a modern and responsive online shopping experience across fashion, beauty, jewelry and lifestyle categories.
The goal was to build more than a simple online storefront. The project required a structured digital shopping platform where customers could discover products, explore collections, navigate different categories and interact with essential e-commerce features through a clean interface on both desktop and mobile devices.
Unlike a template-based WordPress or Shopify store, Vital Cores was developed as a custom web application using React, Node.js and Supabase, allowing greater flexibility over the frontend experience, application logic and data structure.
The Challenge
The main challenge was organizing a growing range of products and categories without making the shopping experience feel complicated.
An e-commerce platform needs to help visitors quickly understand where they are, discover relevant products and move naturally between categories, collections and individual products.
The application also needed to work effectively across different screen sizes. Mobile usability was particularly important because navigation, product cards, account interfaces, shopping actions and other interactive components needed to remain comfortable and easy to use on smaller displays.
Another requirement was creating a technical foundation that could support continued development instead of relying on a rigid pre-built store template.
The Solution
Vital Cores was developed as a responsive custom web application with a modular frontend and backend architecture.
The interface was structured around clear product discovery and category-based navigation, allowing users to explore different sections of the store without unnecessary complexity.
Reusable UI components were created for important parts of the shopping experience, helping maintain visual consistency throughout the application.
The frontend was developed with React, while Node.js supports the application’s server-side functionality. Supabase provides the backend infrastructure required for structured application data and related services.
This combination created a flexible foundation for an e-commerce experience that can continue evolving as products, categories and functionality expand.
Frontend Experience
The frontend was designed with a strong focus on usability, responsiveness and product presentation.
React makes it possible to build the interface using reusable components rather than creating each screen independently. This helps maintain consistency between product listings, navigation elements, account areas and other application interfaces.
The experience was designed to support:
Clear category navigation
Product discovery
Product collections
Responsive product cards
Promotional content
Shopping interactions
Customer-focused interface elements
Mobile-friendly navigation
The result is an interface that behaves more like a modern shopping application than a traditional static website.
E-commerce Experience
Product discovery is one of the central parts of Vital Cores.
The application provides structured ways for visitors to move through different categories and collections while keeping important shopping actions accessible.
Core e-commerce functionality includes product browsing, category-based discovery, shopping cart interactions, wishlist functionality and customer account experiences.
Promotional areas and collection-based navigation also help highlight products without overwhelming the main interface.
The objective throughout development was to keep the shopping journey straightforward: users should be able to discover a product, understand where it belongs within the store and continue exploring with minimal friction.
Mobile-First Responsive Design
Vital Cores was built to provide a consistent experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
Instead of simply shrinking the desktop interface, layouts and interactive elements were designed to adapt to smaller screens.
Special attention was given to:
Mobile navigation
Product card sizing
Readable content
Touch-friendly interactions
Product browsing
Shopping actions
Account interfaces
Responsive spacing and layout
This approach allows customers to browse the application comfortably whether they are using a large desktop display or a smartphone.
Backend Architecture
The application uses Node.js as part of its backend architecture and Supabase for backend infrastructure and structured application data.
This custom approach provides greater control over how frontend components interact with application data compared with relying entirely on a traditional CMS-based e-commerce system.
The architecture was designed with maintainability and future expansion in mind, allowing additional functionality to be integrated as the platform develops.
Key Features
Vital Cores includes a range of features designed around modern e-commerce browsing and customer interaction:
Custom E-commerce Web Application
Responsive User Interface
Product Search and Discovery
Category-Based Product Browsing
Product Collections
Shopping Cart
Wishlist Experience
Customer Account Interface
Promotional Offers
Mobile-First Shopping Experience
Technology Stack
The project was developed using a modern custom web application stack:
React — component-based frontend development and interactive user interfaces.
Node.js — server-side application functionality.
Supabase — backend infrastructure and application data services.
JavaScript — application logic and interactive functionality.
HTML5 — semantic structure.
CSS3 — responsive styling and interface presentation.
Development Approach
The development process focused on creating reusable components and a scalable application structure rather than building isolated pages.
Product presentation, navigation, responsive behavior and shopping-related interfaces were treated as connected parts of one system.
This made it possible to maintain a consistent design language throughout the platform while keeping the codebase easier to extend as the application grows.
Final Outcome
Vital Cores demonstrates the development of a custom e-commerce web app rather than a standard pre-built online store.
The finished platform combines responsive frontend development, structured product discovery, customer shopping features and a custom technical architecture built with React, Node.js and Supabase.
For my portfolio, the project represents my ability to work across both frontend and backend web application development, build responsive e-commerce interfaces and create custom digital products around real business requirements.
